This model is in a typically Austrian formation for a convoy of barges, i.e., 2 x 2 pusher barges and the towboat “Ybbs”. From Hungary to the Black Sea, convoys with up to 3 x 3 pusher barges are often used with a total length of 272 m. The Ybbs, which was built in Linz dockyard along with her sister ship “Melk” in 1975, has 3 diesel engines adding up to 1,873 kW in all. One pusher barge can carry up to 1,800 tonnes of cargo, and nine of them can carry the equivalent of 1,600 average lorry loads of cargo.
